The Nephrology Transplant Fellowship at the University of North Carolina Hospitals provides subspecialty clinical and research training in all aspects of kidney transplantation. The twelve month program accepts one fellow per year and has joint accreditation by the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Transplantation. Fellows in transplant medicine gain extensive experience in the pre- and post-operative management of kidney and/or pancreas transplant recipients. There is a minimum of six clinical months working directly with the UNC abdominal transplant surgical team, including organ harvest and implantation as well as daily rounds. The remaining months are devoted towards the development and participation in a research project as well as other areas of interest, including the HLA/immunology laboratory.
