Helping Uninsured Citizens Access Primary Care:

north carolina healthcare safety net graphicNew Resources from two of The North Carolina Institute of Medicine’s recent task forces:  The North Carolina Health care Safety Net  and Expanding Health Insurance Coverage to More North Carolinians include a new website that provides comprehensive information on safety net organizations by county.  This expanded resource includes hours of operation, eligibility requirements (f any), types of insurance accepted (if any), whether the services provided are free or on a sliding scale basis and whether the specific organization is accepting new patients.  Click here for the NC Health Care Help web site.

The  NC IOM, with assistance from members of the Safety Net Advisory Council (SNAC), has also produced a technical assistance manual for communities interested in creating or expanding safety net capacity.  The Technical Assistance Manual is available at http://www.nciom.org.

The KEOP Welcomes Mary Graves as Liaison Consultant

marygravesMary Graves is the new KEOP liaison consultant in Anson and Montgomery Counties! Mary’s personal experience with health challenges and her witness to the lifestyle devastation that often results from poorly managed chronic disease motivated her to return to her native state and establish Mary G’s Diabetes Awareness Outreach. Mary is assisting citizens in their search for health resources and is providing personalized education about the importance of early diagnosis and intervention before clinical symptoms are apparent.

Mary is available to represent the KEOP at local activities that provide opportunities to increase citizens’ awareness about the major risk factors for developing CKD and the importance of getting screened for kidney disease before clinical symptoms are apparent and to remind citizens to ask…HEY DOC, HOW ARE MY KIDNEYS?

We are excited to have Mary as our lay leader in these two counties and look forward to expanded opportunities to help reduce the number of citizens who suffer from chronic kidney disease.

Please contact Donna Harward (1-866-259-2230) or (919-966-2561 ext 300) if you would like for Mary to attend health information fairs or provide an awareness session at your church or community function.

Mary Graves can be reached at 910-974-7986.
