Medicare Part D and Transplant

Important information about immunosuppressants. If your transplant was covered by Medicare and was conducted at a Medicare-approved facility, Medicare Part B should continue to cover your immunosuppressant (anti-rejection) medications.

However, if you have switched out of Medicare to join an HMO, all your Medicare benefits will end, including your Part B coverage for immunosuppressants, and your new HMO will have to cover these.

If you have any issues at the pharmacy, be sure to call your social worker or call the NC Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (NC SHIIP) at 1-800-443-9354 to speak with a counselor.
