About the Clinic...
The UNC CKD Clinic reopened in March of 2011. Its purpose is to educate patients on chronic kidney disease, including the basics of CKD, dietary guidelines, blood pressure management, bone disease and modality options.
Under the direction of a nurse practitioner, the clinic is designed to provide education about CKD and management of common medical issues. It serves as a supplement to your physician's care.

Where is the CKD Clinic? It is in the same place as the Anemia Clinic, in the Nephrology Clinic located on the 3rd floor of the ACC building.
What can you expect in the CKD Clinic? You will receive education about chronic kidney disease. Topics will include Chronic Kidney Disease, Diet, Blood Pressure Control, Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Transplantation.
Will you see a new doctor? Not usually. You will continue to see your regular nephrologist, as well as other doctors who take care of you. If any changes are made in your care, we’ll make sure all of your doctors are involved.
What will you have to do? The education is designed to teach you how to take care of yourself. You may be asked to check your blood pressure at home, keep a food diary or other simple things. This will help us know how you are doing at home. If needed, we’ll make changes to your treatment.
How often will you have to come? Your CKD educational visit will last 60 minutes. You may come back to this clinic if necessary for additional educational visits up to a total of 6 times. We will design a visit schedule to meet your needs.
What is the charge for the CKD Clinic visit? The CKD clinic may be covered by your insurance.
May your family come? Space is limited in the exam room. We ask that you limit family members to no more than two.
